The Giving Record is a partnership between Why Philanthropy Matters, the Rory and Elizabeth Brooks Foundation and Greenwood Place.
Why Philanthropy Matters
Why Philanthropy Matters is a think tank which tries to provide a space for exploring and explaining philanthropy. It was founded in 2022 by Rhodri Davies, a widely respected expert and commentator on philanthropy and civil society who is also the host of the Philanthropisms podcast and the Philanthropy Expert in Residence at the Pears Foundation.
Rhodri has published widely, including three books, Rich Expectations: Why Rich People Give (2025, with Beth Breeze and Theresa Lloyd), What is Philanthropy For? (2023) and Public Good by Private Means: How philanthropy shapes Britain (2016).
Rory and Elizabeth Brooks Foundation
The Rory and Elizabeth Brooks Foundation is a private, philanthropic foundation created in 2006 to provide a structure for Elizabeth and Rory’s ongoing philanthropy. The foundation focuses on a handful of areas close to their hearts, including the Global Development Institute at the University of Manchester, social justice and the arts, and the couple tend to get closely involved as trustees or advisers rather than just writing cheques.
The Giving Record is a special project created to mark the Foundation's twentieth anniversary with the intention of having a positive and lasting impact for the UK charity sector. Find out more on the Foundation's website here.

Since 2017 it has supported its clients to give over £150 million to good causes around the world. Find out more on the Foundation's website here.
